(Antigonish) The Parrsboro Bantam "B" Predators made short
order of the Antigonish Bulldogs by eliminating the Bulldogs in two
straight games over the weekend but not before a dramatic finish in
Antigonish on Sunday. In Game 1 on Saturday in Parrsboro, the
Predators came out strong scoring four goals in the first five
minutes. After an early Bulldog goalie change, Parrsboro continued
to force their opponent by dominating the play for most of the game
showing the home-town crowd why they have been successful this
season. Travis Canning lead the scoring with 4 goals, Evan Canning
and Brett McCulley each scored 2 and David Johnson added 1. The
Predators went on to win the series opener with a final score of
9-2. Despite the lopsided victory on Saturday in Parrsboro, the
Predators expected a different Bulldogs team for Sundays game in
their home rink. The first two periods saw plenty of opportunities
for both teams but neither side were able to capitalize on the score
board. Antigonish came out strong for the third period and scored an
early goal taking a 1-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, following a
scramble in front of the Parrsboro net, the Bulldogs were able to
mark another to take a 2-0 lead with less than 8 minutes remaining.
It seemed that Parrsboro would be forced to a game 3 next Sunday in
Antigonish when Predator forward Jonathan Guilderson scored
Parrsboro's first goal of the game. The goal seemed to spark the
team to dig deeper and Brett McCulley scored the equalizer a short
time later. Parrsboro continued to force the play with time running
down when Gina Reid scored the all important 3rd goal to put the
visiting Predators in the lead for the first time in the game. Not
satisfied with a 3-2 lead, Brett McCulley scored a quick 4th goal (McCulley's
second of the game) providing a bit of breathing room with less than
three minutes in regulation. The Bulldogs pulled their goaltender
providing 6 attackers but were unable to capitalize and Parrsboro
won the game 4-2 and the series 2-0. It was the strong team
effort for both games that allowed the Bantam Predators the
opportunity to represent the Parrsboro Minor Hockey Association and
the Northern Region at the 2006 Hockey Nova Scotia Provincials to be
held in West Hants (Brooklyn Arena) later this month.
Congratulations and best of luck in the final round! |
